Medical Power of Attorney

 A Medical Power of Attorney is a legal document in which we appoint an agent to represent or act on our behalf on health care or medical matters only.

 It is a document -- signed by a competent adult -- designating a person that we trust to make health care decisions on our behalf should we be unable to make such decisions.


All powers of attorney, including the statutory durable power of attorney and the medical power of attorney, are valid only during the the time we are living.


When we die, the Medical Power of Attorney is obviously no longer valid, and our other Estate Planning tools are triggered at that point to control our wishes (sometimes in concert with one another) from that point forward -- such as a Disposition of Remains, a Revocable Living Trust, a Will, etc...
