Directive to Physicians (aka "Living Will")

A Directive to Physicians (aka a Living Will) is a legal document that a person uses to make known his or her wishes known regarding life-prolonging medical treatments. It allows us to express our wishes to doctors in case we become incapacitated.

In a Living Will, we can outline whether or not we want our life to be artificially prolonged in the event of a devastating illness or injury.

It is often combined with a Medical Power of Attorney (as described on another page of this website) that allows us to designate someone to make health care decisions for us if we become incapacitated.

The Living Will and the Medical Power of Attorney, together, help make up our "advance health care directive".
